“Honoring Andrew” is a tribute to honor the life and contribution of Andrew John Miller (AJ) who worked so tirelessly for Positive Family Partners, Inc. for nine years. Not only was he an efficient and skilled financial administrator, he also embraced the mission of helping families in need of mental health and early intervention services. He went out of his way to ensure that ALL our clients, from the youngest to the oldest, were cared for. He welcomed families and provided care for our staff including those with special needs. He would wait until very late for special transportation to arrive. He helped with special community events and shared our mission.
Andrew had struggled with addiction all the while continuing in his work at Positive Family Partners. He was a friend and mentor to individuals living with addiction and helped so many better cope with the lure of drugs and alcohol. He had a way of listening to those he loved with compassion, offering them truths based on his own experiences. He loved and used prayer and acceptance as part of helping others on their path to wellness and recovery. His desire was for everyone to fulfill their hopes and dreams for their lives.
“Honoring Andrew” recognizes the complex issues of young addicts. The funds raised to honor Andrew are used to expand the Learning Connections program of Positive Family Partners. The program targets struggling or recovering addicts to develop cognitive perspectives to ensure future success. The program is an evidence based, cognitive mediation approach that is provided by four skilled mediators using the Feuerstein Instrumental Enrichment (FIE) method. It goes further than our trauma based programs by encouraging people to envision themselves in a positive future, equipped with the cognitive strengths to do so. This is what Andrew would have wanted for all his family and friends.
